Best Kanban Tools for Developers

Best Kanban Tools for Developers

With a variety of Kanban tool options on the market, fiding the right fit can be difficult. Since I have already posted an article discussing the best kanban tool options for 2023, I thought I would summarize the 3 best choices for developers.

This is based on my outlook on the options all of the tools offer and may give you some idea on where to focus your next search.

So, without further ado, let's go.

Jira

Jira is no doubt a staple in the world of development. Many teams use it to plan and execute their projects daily. On top of that, this solution offers Kanban features that allow for visualization of progress and tracking it on a Kanban board.

You will be able to visualize statuses, define commitment points and limit WIP in order to control how much work your team is pulling into progress. As such, Jira gives you the basics for Kanban project management and will be just great for teams looking to add that for their already existing system.

Planview

Planview is another option for the developemnt teams to consider. Contrary to Jira, this option is purely Kanban-based. Thus, you will get a variety of Kanban features and analysis tools to use. This is a great option for the Kanban-only team, but can become challenging if you wish to use a more hybrid approach.

Choose Planview for when you already have experience with Kanban and are sure this is your practice of choice. In such case, the tool will be great for what you wich to accomplish.

Teamhood

Teamhood is a relativelly new player in the Kanban market, however, it already packs a great selection of features and thus is a worthy candidate to consider.

The biggest advantage you will find in Teamhood is the advanced Kanban board that allows you to trck and visualize even the most complicated projects easily. You will be able to visualize the process with statuses, secondary statuses (for tracking subtask progress) and Kanban swimlanes. This gives you plenty of flexibility in the setup and usage og the Kanban board.

Another benefit of Teamhood is the eamless integration between the Kanban and Gantt views. You can switch back and forth easily depending on what you are doing. This solution also carries workload management, time tracking, and document creation. Thus, making it a powerful system for any team.
